Most things about charities are already well known to most people, so let's simply skip past that and get onto the other parts.
Values
Sport Romford is not a charity and we want to make that clear but much of what we do involves means working with them benefits us all.
In years past, people involved with us have held full events for varying charities, raising thousands of pounds and still have equipment to do these in the future. However, many things have changed and we now want to be involved more elsewhere in the promotingand we don't want to be handling money for them directly.
Visibility
Sport Romford is still a very small group that has the capability to link charities and activities together under one banner. If people can identify what we do, most likely by seeing the blue & gold representing our town, it can help both causes.
When it comes to charity, many people will take part in physical and/or mental challenges to raise money only for the occasion and stop there. Charities need constant income to keep going and our bodies & minds need to keep things going, too. There is always a certain euphoria when we've been successful helping out others but often with the varying aches & pains the following days.
The visibility of seeing someone in a Sport Romford shirt at the outdoor gymnasium in Lodge Farm Park or Lawns Park and recognising the person wearing it, is a good way of getting to find out if similar events are in the pipeline or they may be preparing for a bigger challenge. Lots of people get back into sport this way or join clubs, which is why we have an index of activity & sports groups on this website.
Why Ask For Donations If They Aren't For The Charities?
Our direct aim is to get people active and keeping active. We can't do that simply by promoting charities and are run very differently. We could provide raffle prizes that people forget about the following day, so prizes we want to provide are for more practical purposes, such as shirts for challenge winners, equipment used for activities etc. that will be used on a regular basis. Some of the items may be for use at further fundraising events and we still have overheads that need to be paid for, such as this website.
